I will take that challenge.
It is my view that a strong case can be made that Tom does post as
"Tim", his uglier, nastier alter-ego. After all, Tom is no stranger
to posting to forums from different accounts.
Here is what I will and what I won't prove:
I won’t prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tom posts as "Tim".
But this is not criminal court anyway. This would be closer to a
civil court case.
I will prove it on the balance of probabilities.
When I'm done, if there is evidence that would convince 12 random
people that there is a strong probability that “Tim” is really Tom, I
will consider the case closed.
So shine your shoes boys and girls, because Monday we go to court. |

A strong probability is not proof.
I know for a fact that Tom and Tim are two separate people.
One thing that has been said is that the fact that they both post from
an @essential-skills.com address, they are the same person.
LOL. Tim works for Tom (or used to) and are good friends. Tim simply
got an @essential-skills.com e-mail address from Tom.

Ok, fair point, I admit. But, I have known Tom, now that I think about
it, for many years and I consider him to be a friend. It would highly
surprise me if he's posting as Tim. That's just something he doesn't
do.
That's just my assesment based on how I know him. Offcourse this would
be just me saying this on usenet, I admit. But more than that I cannot
say.
This would not be proof and won't settle the issue, but that's all I
can make of it.
My opinion is that he would not do this, based on what I know about
him. I've always known Tom as an honest and trustworthy person.

Sorry if something like this gets posted twice, compter's acting
weird.
Anyway, you have a fair point here. But all I can say is that I've
known Tom for years and think I've come to know him pretty well. He's
not someone who does this. I've always know him to be an honest and
trustworthy person.
Offcourse this is just my opinion on usenet, but that's all I can say.
This offcourse also is not proof and does not settle the issue, but if
you know someone for a while, usually your assesment can be trusted.

To be clear:
The court accepts that there is in existence an outspoken fan of Mr.
Vizzini’s known as Tim S.
The court is aware that there are posts attributed to personas known
as UnKaH, Hellbwat, and Tim.
The court cannot know if Tim S. and/or Mr. Vizzini and/or anyone else
are the sources of these “UnKaH” posts.
The question before this court is: “What evidence exists that Mr.
Vizzini is behind the “UnKaH” posts, at least some of the time.”
Mr. Prosecutor, you may proceed.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury…this is a circumstantial case. Only
when we’re done will the complete picture be clear. So have patience,
as this case will be built piece by piece.
Today we look at the many ways in which Mr. Vizzini and Unkah are
indistinguishable from one another.
Some similarities are evident to anyone willing to read through the
posts. When you begin to tabulate these similarities, it is
surprising how many of them there are.
There are the views they express and the general manner in which they
express it.
There are the same spelling and grammatical errors that they both
commit with regularity: your and you’re, to and too, there/their/
they’re.
You will notice that they make the same erroneous leaps in logic, and
are very similar in their thinking patterns. They both defend the
same concepts, and hold the same views.
====Ex: Both are very knowledgeable in the field of NLP, including its
history, its theories, and its and founders/gurus. Both started out
defending NLP, certain theories, and certain people (e.g. RJ, and
SS). They now each regard these concepts and people with contempt.
Regarding NLP, back in Mar/02 Unkah wrote:

the brain, including its biology and its physiology.
Both cite the same brain scientists and research.
Both seem in complete agreement on theoretical and even controversial
subjects.
Both vociferously defend Essential Skills and 3DMind.
And both treat detractors with a general lack of respect, which often
devolves into abuse and insults. Of course, Unkah is always harsher
and more profane.
It seems impossible to find a serious topic on which they are not in
agreement.
It is almost as if Mr. Vizzini and UnKaH are the same person.
Oh wait, perhaps they are.
But we will come to that.
For now, let the record show that:
1) Mr. Vizzini’s and UnKaH’s views are indistinguishable from one
another.
Tomorrow: Mr. Vizzini’s long history of posting to forums from two
different accounts.

Tim, I think Nostromo is probably not referring to probabilities, but
instead is claiming that a strong chain of inference will be built
from evidence readily available for examination (if it is not already
familiar to everyone) to support in the readers mind the assertion
that Tim/Tom is one person posting. The evidence and the inference
itself will have to survive the critical examination of a reasonable
reader, but I think Nostromo already knows this.
I don't know how good Nostromo actually is, but good enough to
probably achieve that, especially against you - Tim, or Tim/Tom, or
Tom. Now, establishing you/Tom are one person as a fact is not as
important as making it a reasonable conclusion for the reader to
draw. If Nostromo is good, then that conclusion will drawn by the
reader based on their life experiences with many others and it will be
reasonable to concluded that Tim/Tom are probably the same poster.
Given your (the Tim/Tom collective roadshow) previous perfomance in
handling criticism, or less than sterling opinions of what you have to
say, you're screwed. Your standard techiniques of insult and trying
to reverse the burden of proof will simply reinforce any opinion that
Nostromo may be able to form in the readers perception.

Frankly, your input as someone who knows Tom is interesting but, since I
haven't seen you in ASF before, it's hard to put much weight behind that
statement.
However, I don't happen to think Tom is posting as both people. |
